IGCSE Practice: Analysis of language

Imagen
In the Language Class, we did a couple of mocks as to be prepared for the IGCSE exams. We paracticed different ways and methods of writing as to be fully able to develop any kind of writing the examiners could ask us to write. Here I leave you an example of an analysis of words we wrote. Re-read the descriptions of: (a) Elsie Clinch in paragraph 3, beginning with 'Elsie Clinch stomped ...' (b) the road in paragraph 8, beginning with 'Eventually , the plains gave away...' Select words and phrases from these descriptions, and explain how the writer has created effects by using this language Up to 10 marks are available for the content of your answer. In many cases the author uses words such as "leather boots" and "imperiously" in order to create the image of a strong fighting woman that represents Elsie Clinch. He portrays her "wildly gesticulating" as to show her ability to argue and defend her ideals. She is shown as a dec...

IGCSE Practice: Formal Letter

Imagen
In the Language Class, we did a couple of mocks as to be prepared for the IGCSE exams. We paracticed different ways and methods of writing as to be fully able to develop any kind of writing the examiners could ask us to write. Here I leave you an example of a formal letter we wrote. Imagine you are Elsie Clinch. Write a letter of complaint to the tour company.  In your letter you should: Describe the tour bus and the route Give your impressions on the driver and the office staff Recommend some actions the company should take to improve the experience Base your letter on what you have read in the Passage A. Adress all three bullet points. Be careful to use your own words.  Begin your letter: ´Dear Sir or Madam,                              I was recently a passenger on one of your tours...´ Up to 15 marks are available for the content of your answer, and up to 5 marks to the quality of y...

Climates

Here I present a summary of different climates that can be found all around the world. Equatorial Climate Places with equatorial climate can be found between 5° in either side of the Equator. The main places where it can be found are in the Amazonas, the Congo and south-east of Asia. It has an annual range 2°C due to the high location of the sun rays toward the places. They are hot and wet throughout the year. It does not have a wet or dry season. The annual rainfall is from 2000/2500mm. This condition is due to the warm air but low pressure of the area. There are no prevailing winds. The equatorial climate is characterized by the great humidity and the continuum daily pattern. The daily pattern is produced when water vapor creates the clouds. With more water vapor, cumulonimbus are formed. Clouds condense and it rains, this produces the nights to be warm and very humid. Continental Climates This climate is mainly found in the center of continents, away from coasts and between the...
